Building collapse injures workers at Bremerton yard

Walla Walla Mayors See Uncertain Washington Outlook

Mayor Hent and Mayor Gilbert Hunt of Walla Walla, with Mrs Hunt and Miss Hunt, traveled via Pendleton from Chicago. Hunt predicts uncertain state results with Mead possibly winning big and Turner a narrow victory. He leads the Gilbert Hunt Company, supplying harvesting machinery and iron work for the Smith Crawford building at Main and Water.

Quarrel Ends in Two Deaths at Grand Ronde Camp

James Chesser, foreman at Logging Camp No 4 on the Grand Ronde river, shot and killed Al Webster during a wage dispute. Webster died shortly after, and Chesser was mortally wounded, dying soon after. Two other loggers who heard the dispute were nearby. Coroner Henry took charge, but an inquest was deemed unnecessary.

Pendleton World Fair travelers depart in groups

To the Womans FAIR. Since Friday the following people have started from Pendleton to the World's Fair: T. J. Tweedle and wife and daughter and Mie Belts, Fred Rohde and wife and daughter, J. M. Dispatches from Mukden and Port Arthur on Oct 31 describe Japanese bombardments around Pondloff Hill and the Russian right flank near Mukden. Road Completed by Weston Area Overseer Harvey Martin

Harvey Martin of Weston vicinity completed a grade road around Weston mountain, a 25 year controversy authorized by the county court last spring. The project cost about $349.10, creating a level route into and out of Weston. Previous travel over the mountain was costly and arduous for farmers. Damage claims paid included John Templeton 195, Sam Caplinger 476, and Mr Blumgarn 25.

Catholic fair draws to close with willow rocker prize

The Catholic fair ends tonight with a 10 cent admission. Every attendee gets one chance to win a willow rocker drawn during the evening. The large doll may go to Alma Scheer Blanche Moens or Rita Vey, with ownership decided tonight. Numerous attractive exhibits remain on display.

Inquest Continues Into Death on Oregon Railroad Track

Coroners jury has examined twenty six witnesses over a week in a bid to solve the death of Seymour Ewinger near Bingham Springs on the Oregon Railroad Navigation track. The inquest, to be concluded tonight, includes testimony from six engineers and six firemen. only the crew who found the body saw the deceased.

Churien AL Green returns from a four month absence in the East and California. He reports business conditions improving in the East and notes demand for next year’s crop has not reached Oregon. Green is unsure when buyers will arrive and is not prepared to meet whey demand.

Stockman Wins Seed Count Prize in Pumpkin Challenge

W. J. Stockman won a prize awarded by M. A. Rader for guessing the number of seeds in a large pumpkin. Stockman’s guess was 229 seeds, the actual count being 221.

The Pendleton Epworth League proposes a winter lecture bureau with five monthly talks. An estimated 126 will cover speaker travel and expenses. season tickets will cost 1 for the whole course. Timber Company Profits From Umatilla Land Grab

Northwest Timber Company secured over 8000 acres in township 6 range 30 south in Southern Umatilla County from federal deeds on August 21, 1906. Entry men purchased claims for 400 each and sold to the company at 719 each, netting substantial profits. Discovery by Asmusor P Strain of Amarilla County traced transfers the same day as deeds, with more than 50 claims involved.
