Debris and screams fill a crowded building that toppled in Bremerton. Rescue teams search for survivors as workers and officials scramble to account for the injured and missing. A bank cashier named Henochs sustained a broken toe amid the confusion.
In Pendleton a presidential campaign meeting drew an attentive audience after Brownell and Dimmick arrived with pledge to advocate tariff policies. The event, led by chair Moorhorne, focused on American wealth and Democratic prospects.
Mayor Hent and Mayor Gilbert Hunt of Walla Walla, with Mrs Hunt and Miss Hunt, traveled via Pendleton from Chicago. Hunt predicts uncertain state results with Mead possibly winning big and Turner a narrow victory. He leads the Gilbert Hunt Company, supplying harvesting machinery and iron work for the Smith Crawford building at Main and Water.
James Chesser, foreman at Logging Camp No 4 on the Grand Ronde river, shot and killed Al Webster during a wage dispute. Webster died shortly after, and Chesser was mortally wounded, dying soon after. Two other loggers who heard the dispute were nearby. Coroner Henry took charge, but an inquest was deemed unnecessary.
To the Womans FAIR. Since Friday the following people have started from Pendleton to the World's Fair: T. J. Tweedle and wife and daughter and Mie Belts, Fred Rohde and wife and daughter, J. M. Hombit and J. P. Lemmteirti. The following eight people will leave on this evening'e train for the me destination: F. FR. Hampton, James Furnish and wife, A. Laing, Mien, R. Laing, Miss Mary Laing and 4. M. Hartnette and wife.
Obegon's Mineral Prolbbit notes partial progress in gathering Ne mineral samples for the Lewie and Clark exposition. Henry Niedermark praises cooperation from mine owners and prospectors as officials plan a state diverse display with funds allotted for a building to showcase exhibits from every region of the state.
Dispatches from Mukden and Port Arthur on Oct 31 describe Japanese bombardments around Pondloff Hill and the Russian right flank near Mukden. Renewed artillery actions, suspected maneuvering to outflank, and reinforcements from south of Geng Wang Chang are cited as Japan moves toward the offensive.
Harvey Martin of Weston vicinity completed a grade road around Weston mountain, a 25 year controversy authorized by the county court last spring. The project cost about $349.10, creating a level route into and out of Weston. Previous travel over the mountain was costly and arduous for farmers. Damage claims paid included John Templeton 195, Sam Caplinger 476, and Mr Blumgarn 25.
The Catholic fair ends tonight with a 10 cent admission. Every attendee gets one chance to win a willow rocker drawn during the evening. The large doll may go to Alma Scheer Blanche Moens or Rita Vey, with ownership decided tonight. Numerous attractive exhibits remain on display.

Coroners jury has examined twenty six witnesses over a week in a bid to solve the death of Seymour Ewinger near Bingham Springs on the Oregon Railroad Navigation track. The inquest, to be concluded tonight, includes testimony from six engineers and six firemen. only the crew who found the body saw the deceased.
Churien AL Green returns from a four month absence in the East and California. He reports business conditions improving in the East and notes demand for next year’s crop has not reached Oregon. Green is unsure when buyers will arrive and is not prepared to meet whey demand.
W. J. Stockman won a prize awarded by M. A. Rader for guessing the number of seeds in a large pumpkin. Stockman’s guess was 229 seeds, the actual count being 221.
The Pendleton Epworth League proposes a winter lecture bureau with five monthly talks. An estimated 126 will cover speaker travel and expenses. season tickets will cost 1 for the whole course. Potential lecturers include Rev. J. D. Driver, John B. Coleman, H. J. Hockenberry, Senator Wesley L. Jones, Stephen B. Penrose, and more.
State inquiry on whether a widow's dower in Hustani's estate is taxable under House Bill 41. Attorney General Crawford concludes that all property within the state and any interest passing by will or statute to a widow’s dower is subject to the inheritance tax, based on cited statutes and court precedents.
Northwest Timber Company secured over 8000 acres in township 6 range 30 south in Southern Umatilla County from federal deeds on August 21, 1906. Entry men purchased claims for 400 each and sold to the company at 719 each, netting substantial profits. Discovery by Asmusor P Strain of Amarilla County traced transfers the same day as deeds, with more than 50 claims involved.
