Pinchot Cuts Grazing Fees for Oregon Forest Sheep
Chief Forester Pinchot announces a general grazing fee reduction for sheep on national forest lands. The rate drops from one to one and a half cents per head, saving Umatilla County sheepmen $2000 to $3000 and Oregon woolgrowers $25,000 to $30,000. The measure, effective 1909, follows pressure from the National Woolgrowers Association and state groups amid sagging wool and mutton prices. Existing minimum charges and local special rates are unaffected.
