JN Teal Burns In Explosion On Portland Steamer
Two lives were lost when the river steamer J N Teal burned to the water line after an engine room explosion at 430 this morning in Portland. Dead are Mrs A B Jackson of Stevenson Washington and Win Collings deckhand of Portland. Injured include Jack Hasley night watch of Portland. The Teal, a nearly new vessel launched last spring, carried passengers between Portland and The Dallas. Mrs Jackson had boarded the night before to return home. The fire quickly spread as flames climbed the stairs and consumed the main saloon and staterooms.
