Monster Sugar Beet Weighs Fourteen Pounds In City
A beet weighing 14 pounds and over three feet in circumference was brought to the East Oregonian by T. G. Bogard. He and others had earlier raked a patch and noted beets as large as the 14-pounder. Bogard says such beets make fine cattle feed and hog feed, though sugar making is impractical due to distance from the La Grande factory.
