Gregory Texas Oct 16 Taft woke after a fine rest and had breakfast at 9 this morning with no commitments awaiting him. The president is spending the day at his brother Charles' ranch three miles from Gregory, golfing horseback riding and resting. Wednesday and Thursday will be devoted to Jackrabbit and wild cat hunting.
Walla Walla October 19 three men with campotools appeared at the local land office to claim first place in Benton county entry set for November 4 The contenders are Phil Bler J M McCormick and A Nevelow They are taking turns holding the lead as the land was recently restored to entry by Secretary Ballinger
Salem reports five convicts broke from the penitentiary last Friday. Two are dead, two wounded, and one recaptured. The four-mile south finding near Buena View located Nick Nichatich and Perrin. George Duncan died at the penitentiary. Murray may face death penalty for using weapons on guards.

In Bingham Utah on Oct 19 the body of John Crabbell a chemist was found on the top floor of the Utah Copper mill. His clothing caught on a shaft escutcheon dragging him into motion. Crabbell formerly lived at Toms Boat Virginia and had resided in Bingham for a year.

Seattle Oct 19 Edward F Birch recently from Alaska was burned to death and three other men seriously injured in a fire that gutted the Denver hotel at Ballard. The blaze started when a kerosene lamp exploded. Mrs Lowe proprietress of the hotel awakened inmates, gathered six men in the front room, lowered a rope to the fire escape and had them descend first, she was last to leave. The loss was $10000.
