Water Rights Fight Turns Violent in Naches Valley

A water dispute in Naches valley near North Yakima, Washington, escalated into a stabbing and shooting affray. Peter McCallum and his hired men clashed with John W. Poster and his workers as they attempted to turn water into a ditch. McCallum fired, Poster’s party fought back, and McCallum was stabbed while Poster was wounded, with one assailant reportedly beaten near to death. Foster is hospitalized. several others are hurt.
