Berlin reports the Zeppelin airship L-2 built for the German navy exploded 3000 feet up over Johannisthal field. Of 29 aboard, 28 died, including the pilot. a naval commission and Admiral Bohnach were aboard. Kaiser orders investigation as troops control crowd and recover charred bodies.
Mia Bowman, native of Spain and wife of Oren Bowman, attempted suicide by taking carbolic acid amid family troubles. The Bowmans, once residents of Yakima, had been estranged after Bowman left his wife. she encountered him on the street and, unable to reconcile, sought to end her life.
In Roswell on October 17 professor A. G. Hammar an entomologist with the United States department of agriculture who has been conducting special work in New Mexico for two years was accidentally killed by S. J. Leland a local druggist while they hunted in the Capitan mountains about sixty miles west of Roswell.
Reports from Los Santos province say a seismic event has dramatically deepened ocean floors offshore. A cable laid ship found a charted depth of 1000 feet near Tonosi now reads 6000 feet, indicating major seabed changes since the quake.

The Umatilla project produces fine celery with unusually large bunches up to 33 inches. C. D. Porter reports 250,000 plants set across varied spires on slit land with sub irrigation, grown without manure. Some celery will go to Pendleton and Portland market at good prices. Porter, an expert gardener, is also tied to P. Prigham’s 66 acre Hermiston farm. the celery shown today came from John Waureter’s Pliner near Hermiston.
A five year old girl, the daughter of Mr and Mrs J D Turner of Kurst Bakersfield, was thrown from an overturned auto when the steering gear failed near Tipton on a Southern Pacific train. The crew and Engineer J L Whyerm halted the train and freed the child, who remained calm. The parents sustained only slight injuries.
New York October 17 The amendment to the constitution requires a two thirds vote of both the house of deputies and the house of bishops to revise the prayer book or tithe page. The house of bishops must concur before it becomes effective. Debate in the deputies was extended and spirited.
Appleton, Wis. October 17 A woman became the first person fined in Outagamie county under the anti gossip act. Mrs Kom Lehn paid a 21.80 fine after pleading guilty to the near slander charge brought by Mrs. McDonald and Emma McDonald. The act covers near slander cases.
Wayne Lace died after being struck during a football game in Washington, he sustained a head injury causing a brain bleed and never regained consciousness. He is identified as the son of T. K. Luce, a retired farmer and Albion school director.

In Guthrie on October 17 Miss Ann Lowry age 66 formerly of the Benedictine order and editor W H Cunningham age 74 of Ritzville were married at Riteville Wish after telegraph reports reached friends. Sister Justina, as Lowry was known, left the order two years ago. Cunningham, an editor at his Ritzville home, wrote an editorial about Sister Justina. This led to correspondence and a meeting.

Albany Oct 17 The Impeachment Court removed William Sulzer from the governorship by a 43 to 12 vote after acquitting him on four articles of the charges.
