Collier's Pick Nine Could Form All-Time Baseball Team
Collier's lists an imagined best baseball nine: Kling or Walsh catching, Mathewson or Johnson pitching, Lajoie at second, Devlin or Lord at third, Wagner at short, Cobb Magee and Speaker in the outfield. Only one of these stars would join the Chicago National League team, which remains seen as the strongest all-around club, and the nine might be less effective than today’s Chicago Nationals or the Philadelphia Americans.
