North Yakima Washington October 12 Two Indians Lucas and Lee sue United States Revenue Officer Green and Sheriff John Edwards for 1000 dollars for wrongful imprisonment. They were kept in the county jail to testify in a whiskey case, a practice here as subpoenas are hard for Indians to obey. Captain Green of the Indian department says he has authority to summon Indian witnesses. The saloonkeeper Kelly, convicted on Lucas and Lee evidence, appeals the fine claiming a Supreme Court decision made allotted Indians citizens and exempt from the whiskey law.
Abbott farm on Park street is filed for subdivision into five acre tracts. The historic Walla Walla valley property has been in the Abbott family for half a century and has been cultivated by Chinese workers for years. Yellowhawk creek waters the tract, with new roads surveyed to promote suburban home sites nearby.
Walla Walla reports over 30 000 in city warrants sold with 20 000 yet to be absorbed. Banks are being canvassed to take up the remaining warrants while private individuals dominate purchases. The committee presented the request to five banks this afternoon.
A wire report says the oil burning steamer Mariposa of the Spreckles Line is about 100 miles from San Francisco drifting with oil exhausted after being three days overdue from Tahiti. The vessel serves regular Tahiti runs.

Detroit report states the steamer Cypress was lost on Lake Superior last night. One man was saved and two bodies recovered with 22 missing. The second mate washed ashore later and said waves overwhelmed the vessel and rescue attempts failed. Cypress, a new 440 foot ore carrier, had just begun its second voyage.
In Philadelphia on October 12 a nude man’s body with missing legs was found in the Delaware River. A second body, that of a woman missing a arm or throat injury, surfaced and sank. Police drag the river after fishermen report a Monday night row boat fight between a man and a woman.
Secretary of War Taft is in Hong Kong, hosting a reception at the U S consulate tonight before boarding the steamer Minnesota for Manila. He will deliver a speech to the Philippine assembly after the trip.
New York Oct 12 The government suit to compel E H Harriman and Otto Kuhn of Kuhn Loeb & Company to answer ICC questions about the purchase of the Illinois Central has been postponed until November 13.
In San Francisco on October 12, E. E. Schmitz appeared to answer the remaining four extortion charges. The case was postponed for two weeks.
