Defends valuables killed by bandits on train

Four masked bandits tried to break into a Kansas City and Southern express car at Hatfield Arkansas. Messenger Merrill Burgett fought them off and fatally wounded one before being beaten unconscious. The gang cut the air hose at Potter and fled with Burgett dead. Posses pursue the bandits.

New York Oct 11 Attorneys for talent Becker said they would prove Louis Kraus a waiter was not at the shooting of Rosenthal. Kraus testified he was present and identified Letty Louis Gyp the Blood and Whitey Lewis. Reports said Lefty Louie Rosenberg and Dago Frank Cheefiel were ready to confess, unverified. Thomas Ryan testified one man did the shooting, contradicting Kraus and others who swore multiple shooters fired.
