Washington October 1. Treasury officials attend the permanent sugar commission sessions in Beassley to draft rules for controlling sweeteners and to argue against what they call disguised bounty on refined sugar imports. Officials note U S manufactured sugar exports have risen from 7.2 million pounds in 1902 to over 15.9 million pounds in the year ending June 30, valued at 528,016 dollars. They insist on guarding even small trade gains from foreign discrimination.
Washington October 10 The supreme court reassembled at noon for the October session. No official business occurred beyond admitting an attorney to the bar. The court then went to the White House to pay its respects to the president. Tomorrow the goal of the docket will begin.
Wynne Postmaster General Washington September 10 The president named Robert Wainte to succeed Wayne Wrennie who had been acting postmaster general and now joins the cabinet as a leader.
M Kelley, engaged to Miss Lele Ward of Catlin, was abducted Monday and left bound to a tree with wire in the forest. He was found by a boy with his dog, barely conscious, after four days of tying, blindfolds, and torture. Police expect a northern detective effort to reveal suspects.
A head on collision between a Missouri freight and a passenger train near Warrensburg Missouri killed about thirty people and left many injured. Relief crews aided the wrecked site as the badly damaged cars burned and bodies were moved to nearby towns.
Spokane, Oct. 10. The Oregon, Washington and Northern Railway offers to vacate its line along the north side of the Washtucna coulee to the United States Reclamation Service for use as a reservoir for the Palouse irrigation project. The plan includes maintaining two free ferries across the reservoir at points where sidetracks run between Kahloths and Gonnell.
Des Moines Iowa October tracking by bloodhounds led to Kurt Karrer who surrendered the $1600 taken in a daylight hold up at Treynor. He had entered the bank disguised and locked the 17 year old assistant cashier Mia Flood in the vault before escaping. his capture followed the hound's lead and he confessed.

Depth under six feet yielded fish from six inches to two feet with clearly defined fins bones and gills, plus nuts clams and oak leaves. Remains crumble when exposed to air, and shells appear petrified.
Portland October 10 An effort is underway by several mining companies to bring the Eddy law before the courts. While H K Sargent was in Eastern Oregon the matter was discussed with him and some companies promised to involve others so a case could be taken to the higher courts as soon as possible.
In New York on October 16 Frank Depey Aten Hall, a wealthy member of several prominent clubs, shot himself in his apartment. He had recently sued two well known club members for slander and claimed £100 damages.
The October term of the state circuit court convened this morning with the case of Margaret Huech against Jon F. Robinson on the triad docket. Huech seeks 2000 dollars damages from an accident two years ago when her head was caught by hot rollers in a mangle. Plaintiff alleges an unsafe platform and a hole in it caused a slip leading to injury. Attorneys Hailey Lowell for Huech. Byalleray Meourt Carter Raley for Robinson. Trial unlikely before tomorrow. Jurors named include Whitaker Wurser Neff Badley Gordon Schubert Prichett Seivera Hudeman Byrd Leach Hates. Several out of town lawyers attended opening.
To Open Indian Lands Helena Montana October 10 United States Survey General Beattie announces contracts for surveying the PLathead and Crow Indian reservations containing hundreds of thousands of acres of Montana's lands. Approval from Washington pending but opening to settlement before next spring is anticipated.

Major Moorhouse Mack Elk and Weeles testify to Joseph’s leadership of the Nez Perces. They dispute claims by Looking Glass and White Bird that Joseph was not the head chief. Black Elk and Pendleton Nez Perces corroborate that Joseph led the tribe during the Wallowa war, supporting his status as leader.
Minn Kealelle Clayton of Wayne county Missouri and Martin Good of New York City were married last Monday afternoon atop the Perris wheel at the Loulelain Purchase exposition. The ceremony arose from a dare as Good, a crewmember on The Wheel, and Clayton, a stenographer, grew acquainted while she rode in the car. Mrs Maud Nicholson of Ladoga Indiana rode the wheel previously and her trip has become a talking point.
Fire engines battled an early morning blaze that destroyed the Narvia House while the Barker House was saved by firefighters. Inmates were injured or disabled by smoke and exposure, with guests fleeing in their night clothes as flames spread rapidly.
