Cattle Market Glutted as Heavy Run Hits Portland Area
Thirty six cars of cattle arrived Sunday in local yards amid a flood of hogs from Nebraska, driving prices down for ordinary cattle. Total hogs reached 1250 head, with Nebraska supplies contributing heavily. Local buyers face higher costs for hogs compared with Nebraska points, while cattle prices lag behind central markets though top steers near 7.50 in distant markets. Major shippers Kidwell and Caswell led this week with 17 cattle loads from Baker City and other towns.
