Pendleton crowds flocked to the fair yesterday with record turnout and a lively program. A brisk livestock exhibit faced lighter entries than prior years while a bronco busting contest drew spectators at the ball park. Evening merchants plan early closings to cap the most populous fair week.
A concert program features solos and ensemble pieces led by conductors and musicians including Clirionet Solo Grand and arrangements such as La Banca Bignor and Porto Rivan. The program includes Rosita Mins and Deliben, with a grand fantasia from Bizet Carmen and an intermission before Waltx Di ballet.

Hillebore Oregon October 3. Berusy V Calloway attacked by William H. H. Adame over a ranch deal. Galloway hospitalized with a deep axe wound from temple across the face and nose nearly severed. Adams used a double edged axe weapon in the fight. Adwing sustained a knife wound in the leg.
Morgin of Hermiston visits the city with a fall injury that crushed two toes after a heavy barrel dropped on his foot. He requires crutches and faces a lengthy recovery, while local court action unfolds elsewhere as umpire John Kerlin reports the arrest of Robert Cantwell in Chicago following a game.
J Ireland and Warren Stephens received indeterminate sentences by Judge Bean this morning for horse stealing and a related admit guilt. Ireland was tried recently for stealing a team from Meseride stable at Athena. the jury found him guilty. Stephens faces penitentiary time for an offense four to five years old, after leaving the country and returning last spring near Wallula. Kopitzke waived examination in a prohibition case. Townsend released on bail from county jail for liquor selling. Stott remains jailed in Milton on liquor supply to minors charges.
Taft spoke three hours in Denver at a public meeting and parade event addressing labor issues. He emphasized independence, citing federal statutes and party history while challenging labor leaders and voters to scrutinize past records and the Democrats’ influence. The crowd filled the Denver auditorium and surrounding streets, with a red glow and extensive preparations marking the visit.
A suspicious blaze on Incendiala Pike destroyed an unoccupied two and a half story Vicant home at Court On Gringe near Olehe. The structure, owned by OO. Kileka Suttt and formerly by Matthew Whitorin, burned before fire crews arrived, with witnesses noting flames leapt high and alarms drew neighbors from sleep. Investigators consider arson or accidental ignition by nocturnal visitors. no spread to adjacent properties occurred.
A new five mile automobile record is reported from Helena. A White steamer owned by CM Bolt of Billings completed five miles on a circular flat track in 4 64. The event was measured yesterday and noted as a records-pace achievement for the era.

In Franklin Louisiana a 19 year old bride Joesse killed her husband A Sydney Bouterie editor of the New Era with a pistol five shots fired as he worked in the office at Patiereon now here. The couple wed at midnight with the girl's father forcing the gunpoint marriage. The bride is jailed and the husband dies. Accused accomplices Joe Stansbury John Gisna Roland Witter were arrested.

In San Francisco on October 3 the question of whether the Interstate Commerce Commission can set railroad rates and review their reasonableness was forwarded to the Supreme Court. The republican campaign in California starts with two major meetings tonight in Redding and Martinez. Attorney General Shortridge speaks at Redding while Governor Gillette addresses supporters in Martinez.
Peyton Metcalf nephew of the secretary of the navy is under arrest in San Jose California charged with running down 17 year old Gilbert Aylesworth while searching his auto. Aylesworth suffered a broken leg and was hospitalized. Metcalf allegedly failed to stop and sped away, pursued by a friend who secured his arrest. The youth spent the night in jail.
Tokio Oct 1 The University of Wyshington baseball team finishes its tour of Japan with a 4 to 3 victory in the final game. The Americans defended well against Japanese opponents who had impressed them throughout the trip.
Charles Pishman, former Pendleton laundry proprietor now attending the district sale, recently bought an interest in the White Star laundry at Walla Walla. He has resided in Walla Walla since leaving Pendleton over a year ago.
Survivors testifying before U S inspectors charged tug captains with inaction that could have saved 111 lives when Star of Bengal sank off the Aloe kan coast. Witnesses said winds were light and time available, naming tug captains Farrar and Hamilton as possible defendants in a manslaughter probe.
