The Illinois Central saw its first violence as four union pickets attacked carpenter John Thomas who refused to join the strike. Police protected him as about a hundred strikers surrounded him. Two hundred strikebreakers were smuggled into Burnside. officials say about one hundred strikers have returned to work from the 400 who quit.
