Pendleton council adopts 10 mill city tax levy

The Pendleton city council last night adopted a ten mill levy for next year to support a budget of about $62,625. Seven and a half mills fund general purposes and a half mill supports the library. Delinquency of about 3,000 reduces expected receipts to around $62,000, with fines and licenses adding roughly $4,000, totaling about $56,000.

Pendleton Bonds Sold In Full For Main Street Improvement

City Recorder Trius FitzGerald reported last evening that the first paying bonds issued a decade ago to cover deferred payments for the Improvement of Malinette from bridge to Muttont Court street, Main to Vincen, were all taken up. The pavement cost about $50,000 at $2.00 a yard, but all except $6,000 was paid in cash.

Amas Tree Erected At Alta And Main

Pendleton’s municipal Christmas tree arrives tomorrow and will be erected at the intersection of Main and Alta streets instead of Main and Court. The 45 foot central tree will be surrounded by four 20 foot trees at the corners connected by festoons and colored lights. Pacific Power & Light Co. donates the power for the display as the finance committee raises funds for the celebration.

Stockmen Seek Permanent Game Reserve Created

In Pilot Rock on November 20 a meeting at the Odd Fellows hall formed a petition to the State Game Commission asking for a permanent game reserve covering Camrad and Ridaway horse ranges. Attendees included W. Cryder of Pendleton and Mr. McKenzie of the Portland branch. The group proposed patrolling the range to deter cattle theft and supervising salt licks and cattle to prevent theft. About forty men attended.

J Henry Kunzie pioneer resident of Umatilla County died this morning at St Anthony's Hospital after six years confined by creeping paralysis. He was 73 and formerly ran a store at Umatilla.
