The Pendleton city council last night adopted a ten mill levy for next year to support a budget of about $62,625. Seven and a half mills fund general purposes and a half mill supports the library. Delinquency of about 3,000 reduces expected receipts to around $62,000, with fines and licenses adding roughly $4,000, totaling about $56,000.

City Recorder Trius FitzGerald reported last evening that the first paying bonds issued a decade ago to cover deferred payments for the Improvement of Malinette from bridge to Muttont Court street, Main to Vincen, were all taken up. The pavement cost about $50,000 at $2.00 a yard, but all except $6,000 was paid in cash.
Pendleton politician Robert N B Stanfield claims 40 votes pledged to secure the Oregon House speakership despite rival Lt B Bean Eugene asserting a stall. George C Brownell has entered, while Stanfield supporters include numerous Marion Linn and Multnomah county figures and other county delegates.
Pendleton’s municipal Christmas tree arrives tomorrow and will be erected at the intersection of Main and Alta streets instead of Main and Court. The 45 foot central tree will be surrounded by four 20 foot trees at the corners connected by festoons and colored lights. Pacific Power & Light Co. donates the power for the display as the finance committee raises funds for the celebration.
In Pilot Rock on November 20 a meeting at the Odd Fellows hall formed a petition to the State Game Commission asking for a permanent game reserve covering Camrad and Ridaway horse ranges. Attendees included W. Cryder of Pendleton and Mr. McKenzie of the Portland branch. The group proposed patrolling the range to deter cattle theft and supervising salt licks and cattle to prevent theft. About forty men attended.
United Prose reports Washington ran Thanksgiving on the traditional last Thursday despite merchants fearing a shortened season. Jewelers and several chambers pressed for an earlier date, but Pilgrim tradition triumphed as President Wilson kept to the later Thanksgiving, preserving the customary observance.

J Henry Kunzie pioneer resident of Umatilla County died this morning at St Anthony's Hospital after six years confined by creeping paralysis. He was 73 and formerly ran a store at Umatilla. Innereuin services at Tutu ila church on the reservation began last evening and will continue for a full week. Today a large Indian dinner will be held as members from various reservations join the event. George Tacumse arrived from the Yakima Reservation and Silas Corbett and wife came from Stites Idaho for the services.

Washington November 20 It is strongly indicated Congress will spend time investigating high prices. Early arrivals suggested remedies including a 10 percent stock embargo and a federal trade commission study with recommendations. President Wilson and the cabinet are likely to favor the latter.
