The Pendleton School District No. 16 bond issue of 100000 dollars was sold and delivered to First National Bank, ending eight months of board effort. Dilson Thompson and Clay of New York City passed on the issue and their work was relayed by attorney Charles H. Carter. Local officials have not announced concrete construction plans yet.

Levee at asylum nearing completion near Hermiston
The Newport Land & Construction Co of Hermiston expects to finish a 2100 foot levee along the Umati a river at the branch asylum site west of the city. The eight by fifty foot levee includes a six foot rock toe and a water tunnel for irrigation. Newport will then move to Hermiston to begin a water system there.

Court Street Sewer Extension Planned for Slaughterhouse Area
The city will extend Court street sewer along Hazel street to the north side of the railroad to serve a soon to be built slaughter house and abattoir by Pendleton Meat company at an estimated cost of 900. The sewer committee was instructed to advertise for bids. Mayor Murphy urged the project for sanitary reasons and council members supported it. The last council meeting before the election covered bid openings for sidewalk work on Washington and Blaine streets and liquor license referrals to the license committee, with salary list approval the only other business.
