Employers Meet to Fight Open Shop at City Convention

About 1500 of the largest American employers gathered at Carnegie Music Hall for the Citizens Industrial Association of America’s second annual convention. They aimed to counteract labor unions, oppose the eight hour bill, and promote open shop while seeking to neutralize anti injunction laws, with focus on spreading the open shop idea across the nation. The movement began in 1903 led by David M. Parry and grew from Chicago meetings into a nationwide federation of employer associations.
