Shanghai dispatches report rebels seizing Nanking fortifications after a fierce battle with imperialists. Casualties reach about 23,000 in a week as Wu Chang, Hankow, Han Yang areas see intensified fighting. Foreign concessions barricaded, Maxim guns mounted for possible renewed assault.
The Interstate Commission ordered a 20 percent cut in class rates from Portland Seattle and Tacoma but Port lands local tariffs remain as low or lower. Spokane Wash Nov 28 Nearly a block of the Mount Scott district was burned this morning destroying several frame stores and ten residences with losses around 50000. The blaze began in a grocery store and residents fought it with buckets until city equipment arrived two hours later. Fifteen families, mostly workmen, were left homeless.
Paris report states Baron Gustave Rothschild aged eighty three, chief of the Rothschild banking house and Austrian consul general at Paris, died here today. He headed the French branch of the banking concern.
