Washington State College defeats Whitman in a volatile game played amid six inches of snow. Modesto faculty and local figures note the match against Multnomah and Oregon rivals was hindered by a muddy field and poor footing, yet the team secured a decisive win.
Seattle reports the University of Washington football team captured the Pacific Northwest championship with a 22 to 0 victory over Oregon Agricultural College. Coach Glmour Doble of Minnesota-Oregon led the Huskies to their first title in five years as Washington dominated from start to finish.
Salt Lake reports a hard fought football game at Cummings field yesterday between Imho and Utah universities ending in a 6 to 0 tie. Utah prevented scoring by Gutl while punting and neither side advanced beyond the 19 yard marks. Snow six inches deep covered the field at kickoff.
In Portland on Thanksgiving, the University of Oregon defeated Multnomah Athletic Club 10 to 0. Multnomah led early in the first half but Oregon, asserting youth and stamina, dominated late. The ball spent much of the second half in Multnomah territory and near their goal line before final plays preserved Oregon’s victory.
On a field slick with four inches of mud Whitman loses to Washington State 4 to 0. The West Missionary eleven played a magnificent game, outplaying Pullman in the first half but failed to score as Whitman attempted three kicks from the 25 yard line and Halm of Pullman kicked a 30 yard point after in the second half.

Wilson also says Ruef wanted a $1000 defense fund from supervisors.
St Louis, Nov 27. James Van Vinave of the National Association of Manufacturers accuses the tariff investigations of timing and method. He says many factory heads received late notices to testify, limiting their chance to prepare. He argues the hearings seek to justify keeping or increasing duties and mentions pressure from Taft supporters for honest revision of the tariff law.
In Seattle on November 27 a bold murder and robbery shocked the city. The body of McMahon, a bartender at the American bar on Pike Street, was found near his home. He appears to have been strangled or struck by a footpad and then discarded over a sewer. A diamond ring, scarf pin, and $20 were stolen. McMahon left the saloon around 4 a.m. and his absence prompted his wife to search, leading to the discovery beneath brush at daylight.
A group of American millionaires from San Francisco St. Louis and New York has offered one million dollars in "Peter's Peace" to the Catholic church if two American cardinals are created at the upcoming consistory in Rome on November 27 1931.
Bert Winkley formerly of Pilot Rock killed himself in Humbol t County last Monday after troubles from unemployment and family conflicts. He left the Bogard home after orders to depart, moved through nearby farms, failed to find work in Ukiah, then returned and shot himself under the chin. Winkley, son in law of J G Bogard, was known in Pilot Rock country and had drifted between several jobs.
Washington reports Congress man George N Lilley elected Connecticut governor on November 3 will resume his seat when Congress opens and serve through September. His resignation from Congress will take effect December 31 and he will be sworn in as governor the following day December 1.
Chicago philanthropist Dr. D. D. Pearsons says reports that he is $450 in debt are false. He pledged large sums to several colleges, and now supports distributing $3,000,000 among small colleges with a plan announced in Los Angeles on November 27.

A well dressed man entered Bond Bros. in Pendleton buying clothing totaling about 40 dollars. He paid with a 79.20 check drawn on the State Bank of Tekoa Washington to F M Stewart but signed as J D Henderson. The bank and sheriffs office intervened. the suspect Milton Rineberg used the alias Stewart and registered at the Hotel Pendleton. No loss occurred to Bond Bros. as goods were returned. The man is in county jail awaiting further handling.
Sheriff Ed Gilson of Adams county Washington brought back to Ritzville L Brooke arrested in Pendleton for alleged theft of a team and wagon. The team was recovered at a feed yard in Ritzville with one animal sold by Brooke along with the wagon and outfit. the other animal remained with him. Brooke was returned to Ritzville last night.
The Royal City mill, a branch of the British Columbian Mills Timber and Trading company in Vancouver, B C, was destroyed by fire early Tuesday morning. The loss is placed at 100,000.
Sweet Home Oregon reports a minor earthquake just after 10 PM with three shocks. Each quake lasted about one minute, separated by about three minutes. No damage reported.
