Former seaman and old freighter passes away
Robert M. Griffith aged 81, longtime Walla Walla resident, died at Walla Walla hospital after a long illness. Born in Barbados January 6, 1852, he sailed before the mast in 1845, later freighting to mining districts, and helped quell Indian uprisings. Survived by daughter Catherine A. Griffith of Dixie. son Robert W. Griffith is deceased. Married Annie Sorrenson in 1888 in the county.
