Flames engulf St Paul mines as firemen battle the blaze. Prisoners remain trapped and rescue efforts flag. Company officials tighten control, two mine crews reportedly refuse to concede, while urban authorities monitor the escalating situation with concern for nearby residents.
Eight of twelve men who died in the St Paul mine explosion are buried today in Cherry. Preparations for interment of the remaining victims continue as mine officials donate land behind the Catholic church for a cemetery. Bishop Dunne from Peoria is to conduct services and about 300 caskets head to the city.
Officials fight a mine fire at Cherry as rescuers cut a shaft cover and drop in a hose and chemicals. Fire crews from Chicago arrive with equipment hoping to extinguish the blaze tonight or tomorrow. Survivors blame the disaster on an improperly repaired electric cable.
Auburn Calif Nov 16 The opening of the case of Alma Betl charged with the murder of her lover Joe Armes was delayed today by the absence of a juror. Alma is receiving many letters of sympathy, including money from a San Francisco well wisher and a note urging courage and hope.

Walter J Poffo, a member of the Richmond Tray football team, died in Richmond Virginia on November 16 from injuries sustained in the November 6 game. The tragedy follows the team's recent contest with no further details disclosed.
