Horrible Death and Suicide Attempt Near Spofford
W. T. Bunnell a 35 year old laborer, committed suicide Sunday afternoon near Spofford warehouse between Walla Walla and Milton by lying on train No 7. His attempt to save himself failed at the last moment, leaving him horribly mangled. He died about 4 pm at St Mary's hospital after being taken from the scene. Bunnell had lived apart from his wife after their marriage broke up, a motive authorities cite as the cause. He left no notes. The wreck occurred on a desolate railroad section. the engineer initially mistook him for a pig. The train could not stop in time. Bunnell's right hand was crushed, his head injured, and his front mouth crushed. He was transported to Walla Walla hospital where he died. His family and relatives from Joseph and nearby areas awaited funeral arrangements in Walla Walla.

Eight Year Old Hero Perishes in Fire
