Portland measures to stamp out bubonic plague halted by lack of laboratory equipment. Dr. Ralph Matson, state bacteriologist, says two infected rats were found but without flea proof cages he cannot fully examine or prevent fleas from spreading disease through the city.
Leane M Shaw attacked church leaders who barred Vice Provident Fairbanks of the Methodist church convention for serving cocktails at a dinner in Indianapolis honoring President Roosevelt. In a speech at a reception by John Wesley Hill Shaw said serving cocktails should not disqualify a man from church conferences.
Two masked road agents held up a Salmon Idaho Red Rock Montana stage aiming for bullion but secured nothing. A lone female passenger escaped molestation in the incident near Dillon Montana.

Rewards totaling 13000 are posted by Great Northern Post Office Department and Marine Insurance Company for the arrest and conviction of two train robbers who held up the Great Northern east of Rondo Montana at 2 45 AM on September 12. The suspects, about 20 years old and common looking, are believed to frequent gambling houses and notorious resorts. Pinkerton agency channels the rewards.
