Cortland County born lawyer and judge Alton Brooks Parker, born May 14, 1852, worked on a farm, educated in Cortland Academy, taught in Nappagech Ulster County, studied law in Kingston, elected Ulster surrogate in 1877, active in the Democratic National Convention 1884, appointed to the supreme court in 1886, declined governor and Senate bids, elected chief judge of the court of appeals in 1897, married Miss Murrie Schoonmaker in 1873, one daughter Mrs Charles Mercer Hill of Kingston.
