Voters urged to vote no on Weston Normal School measure. Comitioner chairman promotes gullible voter guidance little cards. Burgess, Gilliland, Houser, and other nominees cited in unscrupulous tactics by assembly managers.
The East Oregonian reports that Umatilla County Republicans face a battle over the Eastern Oregon State Normal School and party influence. A card handed by E. W. McComas urges a Yes vote on two measures and No on others, signaling machine politics aimed at Burgess Gilliland Houser and sheriff candidate Houser, while urging turnout and informing voters of ballot numbers.
J L Whiting railroad agent at Al amoto Washington arrived yesterday to attend the funeral of Agnes Pear son, his wife's sister. Mrs Whiting came a day earlier.
J B Saylor, candidate for county commissioner, states he has investments in the east end and Echo and will not take a radical stand on county division. He notes a Fern Dale meeting was to discuss the issue, not take sides, and that neighbors contributed $10 to the division fund. Spokane Wash Nov 7 Reports add nothing to the eight dead and four injured from a head on collision on a sharp curve near Chattaroy yesterday between west bound freight No 451 and an apple special east bound on the Great Northern. Engineer Hepburn's body to Barron Wis tomorrow. Fireman Blanchard and other trainmen unremoved. An investigation will determine why both trains were on the main line. Traffic suspended but to resume once tracks are cleared of burned cars.
New York navy announces that Dr. Cook will reveal proofs he was the original North Pole discoverer and that Peary is the faker. Cook plans to show he actually covered the claimed territory with new data, per a letter from Cook received by Captain Osborn of the U S Navy who endorses Cook.
Mrs EB V Morrow of Portland visits her parents Mr and Mrs J W Elmbrell on West Railroad Street as a guest at their home, according to local society notes.

New York November 7 A massive traffic strike began as a thousand taxi drivers joined union ex employees of express firms in sympathy. The Teamsters executive council met to push industrial peace by halting wheels across the city with fuel, delivery wagons and mail wagons planned to walk out.

Black Diamond Washington November 7 Fifteen men are entombed today in the deepest stope of the Lawson coal mine near Black Diamond after a heavy explosion closed all entries to shafts. Rescue forces work to reach the trapped miners while officials try to determine the cause of the blast. G W Schlegel cashier of the First National Bank of Pilot Rock was in from that town Saturday evening.
Portland dispatch reports a white hot campaign ending with both Bowerman and West claiming victory in Oregon. Lafferty expected to win in the first district with Hawley likely triumphing in the second district. Idaho votes dry and Washington reps to win.
Seattle on November 7 reports that Warburton in the second district and Lafollette in the third are favored to win seats for the progressive republicans. Incumbent Humphries, a standpatter, is expected to win the first district against Judge Black by a small margin. State legislature probable to ratio heavily Republican.
Boise dispatch reports gloomy prospects for the Democrats as Republicans claim Governor Brady will win re election over James Hawley by about twenty thousand votes. The campaign centered on the gubernatorial race with the GOP backing a dry state and Democrats backing local option. Burton French, a progressive Republican, is expected to win Congress.
