Mayor James A. Fee announces support for a charter convention to revise Pendleton's city charter. A convention would select representatives to draft changes, then submit them to voters. Publicity and input from residents are urged as streets, funding, and a new city hall are debated amid municipal finance concerns.
In Stockton California Louis Itneglo aged 12 and John Raggio aged 14 were shot by 15 year old Robert Benson after taunts about misanship. Loulea died this morning and John is expected to die soon. Benson claims he thought the cartridge was blank and was arrested after the incident.
The mayor calls for securing a suitable ground floor room for the Commercial Association library and envisions placing the public library in a city hall built with a new structure. He notes current quarters are lacking and a formal public library could be created in the hall once erected.
Senators report Nome citizens claim a victory over vice as federal grand jury indicts many dive owners. On October 24 they were sentenced to one year in jail each, with fines barred to push removal of dives from Nome’s restricted district between Main and Second streets. High board fences enclose the cheap wooden structures as reputable businesses resist encroachment. The convicted owners appeal their sentences.
Chicago market activity on March wheat opened at TH 78 and settled near 731 8 as car markets showed limited movement. Data noted minor volatility with opening 423 and closing 424 percent amid thin volume and unclear mime readings.
