Officials met yesterday urging strict enforcement of the local option law. Sheriff Taylor outlined support for county court and district attorney actions, inviting officers and commissioners to attend and back enforcement efforts.
Sheriff Taylor refused to comment after a meeting, saying he has no statement to make and will keep plans private until after they are worked. Attendees expressed strong belief he would act when needed.
Sheriff T BD Taylor and District Attorney Phelps join county leaders in Pendleton to press for enforcing the local option law. At a November circuit court opening, officers and about two dozen lawmen pledged to fund and deploy detectives if needed to ensure obedience, aiming to curb illicit liquor and bootlegging as they face a mixed report of violations.

A Paris court heard a sensational scene when Lefebvre shouted “Release that woman” during the Madame Steinhell and Madame Japy murder trial. He confessed to killing the pair and claimed his companion helped rob the artists, while Steinhell denied guilt and questioned the proceedings. Police investigated the shouting witness as reports described details of the crime and a red wig found on Lefebvre.
A steamer is thought wrecked on jagged rocks at Bodega Bay seven miles from Tomales California. Distress signals have blown all night as thick fog hinders position and identity. Captain Hunt and seven life savers from Point Reyes departed at 11 AM for the scene to aid.

Athens Nov 4 Lieutenant Tipaldos, leader of the revolt last week, was captured today by troops on the Kephis road with Lieutenant Dimoutis. They were taken without resistance to the arsenal and imprisoned. It is believed they will be court martialed once a court can be convened. Tipaldos said he aimed to reach the capital to surrender and believes he can justify the mutiny.

Joel Woodman manager of Sam Langford says he will post a 10,000 dollar bet for Langford to fight Johnson. He claims he is earnest about the wager and will prove Johnson he is not bluffing if the match is arranged. He favors London as the venue to attract larger gate.
In San Francisco on November 4, McCarthy led the labor ticket to decisive wins in mayoral and district attorney races. Thomas Finn won sheriff by over 1000 votes, while John MacDougald received the highest total. The new board of supervisors will include five Republicans and two Democrats. An ordinance reducing saloon licenses to 500 annually passed by 22,966 to 16,256.

Dr. J A Bestie serves as president, Dr. D J McFaul as vice president, and Dr. J A Temple as secretary treasurer. The group aims to study progressive medicine, educate the laity about TB typhoid and infectious diseases, and conduct lectures for nurses at St Anthony's hospital. Regular meetings are set for the first Wednesday of every month.
