Alabama politics in 1907 race shaped by railroad rates
Alabama faces a heated political season as the next legislature will elect two U S Senators and pick a new governor. B B Comer leads the rail rate reform faction while Rh M Cunningham, the lieutenant governor, pushes for railroad regulation. Comer’s backers doubt Cunningham’s support, and a gubernatorial bid by Comer is anticipated. The 1907 legislature will likely see Senate vacancies affecting the governor’s term.

Founders Day events at Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh highlight the program with remarks by W Graham Gell A W Greeley and Melville E B Stone, followed by art exhibition and awards.
