Washington reports from Mexico City describe extreme anti foreigner sentiment, especially against Americans, amid Huerta’s bankruptcy, widespread unemployment, and business collapse. The diplomatic community is in semi panic as officials warn Mexico’s government to protect foreigners.
The city police seized Guy Gentry and Lennie Gaurrotte last evening for passing two forged checks from Myrick and Sturgis. One check for 14 dollars bore the Pond Kros name, the other for 12.35 dollars to MW WA Wessel. Both men are in the county jail.

Mrs J C Hart wife of the O W R N agent at Hilgard and mother of six survives died at her home Thursday night aged about 63. Funeral set for 2 p m tomorrow at the Episcopal church in this city with all six children and husband present. Native of Lexington Ohio she came west as a youth and had lived in eastern Oregon 14 years moving to Hilgard from Heppner. She was a life member of the Episcopal church and leaves children Mrs M W Metaler La Grande Fred G Hart Rathdrum Idaho Mrs G W Phelps Pendleton Mrs Frank Beckin La Grande Mrs Frank Fairbanks Pentleton and Miss Ruth Hart Hilford.
Boston Nov. 1 Harvard defeated Cornell in a country race over a five mile course. J J Hoimler of Cornell won in 31 minutes 47.5 seconds but Harvard scored the fewest points, Harvard captain finishing second.
Pendleton High School opened the season by defeating La Grande 21 to 1 at Round-Up Grounds. Strong defense anchored by center Fried ley and guards, with standout back Fred Hoskins scoring repeatedly, carried the Pendleton lineup as they overcame travel fatigue and a tougher La Grande kicking game. La Grande showed moments of offense but could not match Pendleton’s ground attack and defensive grit, especially in the fourth quarter.
The East Oregonian prints voter guidance with instructions on how to vote the referendums and related measures. Washington November 1. The secretary of agriculture grants Skagit Power Company a permit to develop water power on the Skagit and Cascade rivers in Skagit County. Construction will begin soon with a 60 foot dam, 4 mile tunnel conduits about 2.7 miles long, and a powerhouse about 120 miles from Seattle. A concrete dam 26 feet high will divert flow, with a six mile waterway to the proposed plant. Machinery for 50000 horsepower to be purchased for use.
