German air raids on Corpus Christi day strike a hospital behind British lines killing nurses doctors and patients as bombs hit the Red Cross building. A church ceremony and dedicatory events are noted at Olney cemetery with a program including solos and prayers.
Officially learned that Britain the United States France Italy and Sweden have concluded a shipping agreement for the war duration. It releases 400000 tons of Swedish shipping for the Allied cause and allows Sweden to rely on train and flour ration shipments. Sweden guarantees not to export to Germany any supplies from the United States.
The Alta theater will screen the five reel film Camp Lewis and the Northwest Prepared for War on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. The National Army forces at Camp Lewis are showcased with 2000 build and 14 other activities depicted, allowing relatives nationwide to spot their loved ones in uniform. Mr Matlock, manager, has invited Pendle Home Guard to attend with the plot and organization expected to send a contingent to view the film.
A bulletin records Engineer Knight killed today when two Southern Pacific electric freights collided near Oswego Portland. Another item notes German soldiers asphyxiating communities near Kietz and a navy vessel sunk after torpedoing. Washington reports Senator Jobst Ip condemning soldiers and General Wood, with Treasuty accreting military attache to Italy to be appointed.
Washington May 31 Approximately 275000 men will be called to remrain on June 24. Quotas are not yet available. Indicating rapidity of the wartime movement, camps will be ready to receive the large quotas by that date. Calls to the men are now in the mails.
Arrangements made to ship the body of Yow Sun a Chinese merchant who died here Sunday for burial in Hong Kong with funds and venue arranged for the voyage and funeral.
In Ramsgate, England, heavy gunfire and terrific explosions were heard toward Belgium for five hours last night. A great flare accompanied each blast as ships crossed the Channel, with Callats mentioned about twenty miles away across the water.

Anniston Alabama May 11 Soldiers who advertise in epipire magazines and other periodicals as lonely are subject to trial by court martial and punishment according to orders issued from Camp McClellan headquarters. Investigations show some soldiers appeal to public sympathy and solicit readers at post offices with such appeals.
May 81 report by Frank J. Taylor describes an American raid across the German third line north of Toul in heavy rain. Lt Rickenbacker twice saved Jimmie Meixner, downing two German planes. several Germans were killed or wounded, and prisoners said the aim was to seize prisoners or learning moves. No American prisoners were taken.
London May 21 The official report credits Captain Frillip F. Fulined of the Royal Air Force and Captain Pollard with fourteen aircraft downed out of control in four months. The moral effect of their patrols is noted. Fulined awarded the Distinguished Service Order.
Near sixty miles of frontline refugees stream toward central France from Rheims to Solouwns, fleeing the German invasion. Women, old men, and children push possessions aboard carts and wheelbarrows while oxen and livestock mix with their makeshift camps. The roadways are crowded with weary travelers as shell smoke lingers and fear keeps them moving.
Five men are listed as draft delinquents for failing to report for service. The names include John Henry Narr, pilot. Trock, Stmley Burrows, Pendleton, Virgil Miller, Stipiria, Wash. John Montana, Spokane. Raymond J. Hellwell, Seattle. Some may already be in the service or away in regions not reached by the draft board.
