Ralph De Palma drives 200 miles in 2 hours 24 minutes on the Indianapolis course setting a new speed record and thrilling spectators.
Indianapolis May 20 Bulletin Dawson driving a National won the 600 mile race in 6 21 06. His time beat last year by 21 minutes 2 seconds. his average speed was 78.6 mph. Bragg in a Flatt finished second.
Indianapolis May 30 Eighty thousand spectators watch the 500 mile International sweepstakes with $76 000 in prizes. Ralph De Palma in a Mercedes car records 100 miles in 1 12 01 and 60 miles in 36 29. He then posts 200 miles in 2 24 04 and leads at the 250 mile mark with 3 04 34 for half the distance. David Bruce Brown exits with tire trouble, Marquette's car loses a wheel, and Fowler aids the driver as the race continues.
In Boise Idaho on May 30 the Boise team defeated the Pendleton Buckaroos 4 to 2 in the morning game.
In Walla Walla on May 30 the Bears routed the La Grande Pippins by a 16 to 1 score. The dominant offense overwhelmed the visitors throughout the game.
The bodies of John Willetsle and Inane Parr, who killed themselves with strychnine, were buried by relatives on the reservation. Their mother and siggy ter removed Willetsle’s remains from the morgue yesterday, Parr’s today. Indians on the reservation are unsettled as self destruction is rare among them.
Fred C Owen aged 30 died at the hospital from consumption. He worked on the Charles Serrell ranch. His parents live in North Dakota and a brother is in town to ship the body east for burial.
A detachment of American marines landed at Daiquirí fifteen miles south of Santiago to guard the Spanish American Company plant after a rebel raid on Playa in Santa Clara province. The landing follows the negro insurrection and aims to protect the facility.

Wilbur Wright, famed aviator and co founder of the Wright brothers, died of typhoid fever at 6 16 this morning in Dayton Ohio. He and his brother Orville pioneered heavier than air flight and were early aviation leaders. La Liberte of Paris paid tribute saying Wrights death causes genuine sorrow and that his genius will be remembered despite disputes over who first flew.
President Taft mourns the death of aviator Wilbur Wright saying it is a loss to progress and that Wright deserves a place in history alongside Fulton Stephenson and Bell. The note was delivered in Washington on May 30.
Under a guarantee by the Farmers Educational and Cooperative Union a special train will run to Athena and back on Saturday for the big annual picnic. Depart here at 9 a m and return from Athena at 7 p m. A special rate will be granted to travelers on the train.
Manuel Friedly a Farmers Union worker and democratic candidate for county commissioner radiates pride after the birth of his 11 pound 12 ounce son yesterday. The baby is the couple’s third child and was born at A C Friedley’s home on 120 Lee Street.
Washington May 20 Congress did not meet due to a legal holiday. Arlington National Cemetery hosted main memorial day exercises with President Taft and Senator Smith of Michigan delivering addresses. A floral monument to Major Butt, Taft’s former military aide and Titanic victim, was unveiled. Mrs. John Hays Hammond led the memorial fund drive.
Budapest May 30. At least eighty persons died today in floods in southeastern Hungary. Hundreds of peasant homes were demolished and crops worth thousands of dollars ruined. The death toll may rise as more fatalities are feared.
New York on May 30 Colonel Roosevelt left for Gettysburg to deliver two Memorial Day speeches. He was queried about attending the Chicago national convention and replied that he does not expect to go, adding a "thousand to one" bet against his attendance.
Eighteen Pendleton high school students received diplomas at commencement held in the Methodist church auditorium. Dr. C. J. Smith awarded diplomas as Prof. Ressler and Prof. Bowler praised the class and school standards. Notable performances included Miss Bernice Dillon’s salutatory, Miss Gladys Satterlee’s valedictory, and a strong address on modern education by Prof. Ressler, emphasizing expanding higher education and technical training.
Bids for gravel bitulithic and Dolarway pavement on Jackson West Court and other streets were submitted by Warren Construction and Dolarway, each with $500 guarantees. A property owner meeting is set for tomorrow at 7:30 PM in City Hall to review bids.

Ladysmith B C May 30 Joseph Alsaph returns to his separated wife home and opens fire on his wife mother in law and infant. He shoots his wife and mother in law and misses the sleeping baby before shooting himself in the veranda. Both victims are not expected to live.

Chicago May 30. National committee chairman Harry S. New denied Senator Dix on Roosevelt's campaign manager 250 convention tickets. New noted Roosevelt got 250 tickets four years ago as president and Taft receives 250 this year with Roosevelt receiving none.
Paris dispatches report Moroccan rebels attacked Fez today but were repulsed with heavy losses. An estimated 20,000 rebels took part in the assault.
