Expect decision in tobacco case today
Washington May 29 after a recess since May 15 when the Stanford Oil decision was made public the United States supreme court convened today to announce additional opinions. This is the last Decision Day of the term with verdicts expected in several cases most important the government dissolution suit against the American Tobacco company for violation of the anti trust law. If decisions are adverse motions for rehearing would be carried over to autumn. Attorneys for Minnesota Oregon and Missouri have sought early hearing in railroad rate injunction cases likely given precedence. The Minnesota case questions proper valuation income to which railroad stockholders are entitled and interstate intrastate cost and interference with interstate commerce all decided against the state by Judge Sanborn. The Missouri case also went against the state while the Oregon case favored the state. The court thus faces a range of conflicting opinions.
