The senior class at Pendion academy delivered a earnest address stressing education and patient effort. The speaker urged young people to prepare for life, value time and training, and seek broad knowledge over mere polish to achieve lasting success.
At the close of the academy the alumni gathered at Hotel Bickers for the annual banquet. Merited graduates and invited guests attended as toasts were made and a pleasant evening concluded the year’s work at the academy.
Norman Williams stands trial for the Nesbitt women killings at Hood River. Evidence includes testimony of a secret marriage to Alma Nesbitt and a Portland chemist linking blood and hair to a gunny sack found on Williams’ property. Williams contends acquittal since no corpse is found and murder cannot be proven without proof of death.
In Scranton Pennsylvania this morning Stephen Haggerty aged 25 attacked his family in a bout of insanity with an ax. He fractured the skulls of his sister Bridget aged 33 and brother Eugene aged 14, fractured the collar bone of his sister Winifred aged 18, and badly injured his brother Anthony. His father and two other brothers were hurt in a fatal struggle with the assailant.
Lawton Oklahoma workers were killed when a morning blaze at the Farmers' hotel claimed the lives of John Brennan and Patrick McCabe. Guests escaped with minor injuries as flames raged through the building. In Anacortes Washington the Rogers sawmill and lumber yards burned, with losses reported at about 200000 dollars.

A ten year old boy in Four Beatt Kas May 2so-Omer Noel was attacked by a mother cat while with her kittens. The cat sank its teeth into the boy's cheek and throat, the animal's jaws were pried apart after a struggle, and the boy endured bleeding injuries.

Matthew Stanley Quay, born 1834 in Meadville York County Pennsylvania, served as lieutenant colonel and adjutant general of the state, private secretary to Governor Curtin, and long time United States senator. He died after a lengthy illness at Beaver Pa on May 28 at age 71, after years as a lawyer and political figure with a noted Civil War service record.
