Alfred Bennett writes from The Dalles May 26 arguing that Senate bill on railroad employers faced obstruction by Senate Roads committee chaired by Fulton. He asserts Williamson did not oppose the measure and criticizes evading responsibility for not seeking a report, urging accountability in the campaign over the Employers Liability bill.
House bill 80 and senate bill 4 were identical and titled a bill for an act regulating railways and protecting employes. J M Poorman of Woodburn introduced in the House and Alen Sweek of Portland in the Senate. Backers include legislature members now on Multnomah county Citizens ticket: John Wriscoll for sheriff Frank Heitkemper for representative R D Inman for mayor, who praised the measure and rail workers expect favorable action at the June 2 polls. Co W Nottingham Republican joint representative nominee opposed the measure.
A Union man writes to La Grande Chronicle urging Oregon voters to favor J. E. Godfrey for state printer over J. R. Whitney. The letter praises Godfrey as a unionist and seasoned printer, argues Whitney lacks union ties and experience, and notes the office costs $40,000 annually. It appeals to organized labor to back Godfrey.
