Great Britain Loses Land to the Sea
A historic survey notes that Britain shed 148,906 acres from 1867 to 1880 and 28,155 acres from 1880 to 1899 due to coastal erosion. Edward I’s duchy of Cornwall was once listed at 1,500,000 acres but Ordnance Survey later reduced it to 829,500 acres. Villages have vanished underwater, as with Dunwich where only a ruined church remains at the shore.
