Reports from tardy sections of Oregon show Senator Johnson's lead over Wood shrinking from 1307 to about 510 as 26 counties report partial results. Multnomah County results favor Johnson, with a few counties still unreported and final totals expected to decide the winner.
The final report of the Railroad Administration shows that government losses on railroad operations during federal control reached 900,478,000 dollars. The figure was released by the director of finances in Washington on May 24.
United Press reports Krasnochekot, a notorious former Bolshevik, proclaims a new buffer republic with headquarters at Verdiso near Lake Baikal. The non Soviet state claims all east of the lake, pledges safety for foreigners and private property, and urges withdrawal of foreign troops. Soviets and Japan reportedly consent.
Mrs Hidda Angell aged 27 died Saturday evening at the family home on Point Street Her funeral will be from Halfway Oregon where she lived before Her husband and mother accompanied the body sent to Halfway on No 4 today She leaves a husband parents and several brothers and sisters most now residents of Seattle She was a native of Montana and had recently resided at Halfway Oregon
May 24. It is estimated that loss from a Sunday fire in North Portland industrial district will reach $760,000. The North Portland Dax Company plant valued at $200,000 and the Standifer Construction Company shipyard worth $250,000 were destroyed.

Paris reports President Deschanel was badly burned and fell from a moving train near Fontainebleau while trying to open a window. He walked to a station with facial wounds, later seen by a trackwalker who arranged transport. A second report from Montargis says he walked a mile after another fall, suffering only minor injuries.
Unofficial word from April cites Emperor Yoshihito of Japan experiencing a physical and mental collapse. The Commercial Advertiser in Honolulu quotes views that the illness may be severe, with rumors of internal strain and medical concerns circulating among observers.
Howard Elliott of the Association of Railway Executives told the Interstate Commerce Commission that the 1.017 billion in extra railroad revenue sought from higher freight rates does not include any wage increases that may be granted to about two million railroad workers by the railroad labor board.

A Warsaw dispatch reported a Galician brigade has joined Ukrainian forces, linking with General Pavelenko and launching an offensive toward Odessa. The dispatch stated that prior reports of Odessa's fall were premature.
Official returns from all but one precinct show L M Schampe ahead of Richards by 138 votes amid incomplete totals. Oakland May 24 F and Parker owner of Eureka Mille company confessed to setting a trap in his office that killed a 15 year old boy when the door opened. He said he panicked and hid the body in the estuary. Police are investigating the unidentified victim and the earlier burglary occurrences.
Five railroad workers were injured, two likely fatally, when two electric locomotives pulling a single caboose plunged 300 feet off an embankment at Garcia station near the Cascade summit. William Coors of Tacoma and Brakeman Lloyd Wella were in critical condition in North Bend hospital. The crash is blamed on roadway weakness from recent rains giving way under the heavy locomotives.
In Seattle on May 24, Governor Ben W. Olcott of Oregon and Lt. R. M. Keily abandoned a planned one day flight from Blaine, Washington toward Stockton, California. Heavy head winds, wind, rain, hail, and a damaged propeller forced a three hour stop at Camp Lewis. The party then diverted to Eugene, Oregon to reassess progress for tomorrow.
Mexico City May 24 Reported dispatches say General Morales Molina was killed at Tlaxcala while accompanying Carranza. General Rodolfo Herrero allegedly claimed he only aimed to kill Carranza and Venacio Tenientes. The military trial of General Roberto Flores Cejada is noted, with confusion over identities. Three generals and two cabinet members initially reported missing are believed to be in hiding.
United Press reports Chicago based wartime railroad management reorganization aims to ease congestion. A plan to cut delays involves rail operators shippers and the government working together and to be presented to railroad men on Thursday.
Bodies of 418 women nurses who served in wartime were brought home aboard the Port Princess Matokaw. Relatives will claim many for burial at destinations nationwide, while others head to national cemeteries. Notable names include M rs Cora M Keech of Santa Ana California and Miss Jenora Robinson of Nampa Idaho. Also returning were 1 699 Polish troopers.
