In the stockyards at North Portland hogs were weaker and lower cattle and sheep also eased from last week. South Omaha cattle fell about 100, hogs down, sheep variable, and Chicago hogs lower with some declines. Market mystery remains regarding wheat and overall demand as Monday’sJournal notes weak prices and shifting values.
Shipments from California were heavier and extra supplies were expected. California steers averaging 1250 pounds sold around 6.76. Thompeon, who had come to the city five weeks prior seeking landscaping work, was found drowned after horses and a buggy tied to harness were brought to shore. His skull showed a fracture likely from a kick, and the incident occurred late Saturday when his body tangled in the harness beneath the horses near Chuck Slough’s outlet to the Pend Oreille. The City of Pendleton announces an extension of its sewer system and invites sealed bids by June 7, 1911 at 5 PM. Bids cover furnishing materials and labor, pipe, specials, manholes, and construction of the entire extension. Each bid must include a 5 percent certified check. the council may reject any or all bids. Geary Kimbrell is city surveyor. Thos Fitzgerald is city recorder. The bid opening occurs June 7, 1911, at 7:30 PM.
