Reminiscences of Morse in Early Umatilla County Move
Ex sheriff C F Thomson recalls moving county records from Umatilla Landing to Pendleton in January 1869. Morse and Jacobs hauled the records in two wagons, no guards, no sleds, wagons left in a field yard, breakfast prepared at 2:30 a.m. the next day, and the records reached Pendleton by evening. Thomson says the event was routine, not the sensational tale later historians claim.
