Salem May 18 Guy Harshman was sent to the state prison last fall for a Portland area train robbery. He suffered aphasia and paralysis from a bullet lodged in his brain. Doctors opened his skull, removed three bone fragments, and a lead piece resting on brain tissue. After anesthesia wore off he spoke coherently for the first time since being shot.

FROSTED WHEAT FOR HAY. Farmers F Steet and J F Walker return from the county and report Frank Cara cutta his wheat for hay yesterday evening. The wheat stood from 20 to 80 inches, well stood and thrifty before the frost struck it, with hope to cut before further damage.
Otto J. Kramer of Portland files suit for Leo Fried in Baker City against Golconda Consolidated Gold Mines seeking accounting restitution and a receiver for the mine. The action, seen by locals as persecution, follows Fried’s refusal of 20 cent per share pro rata and precludes no change in company plans to expand including a cyanide plant.
Fernando Olivera, famed bull fighter, died after his horse stumbled at a Lisbon exhibition. He was thrown into the path of a charging bull and trampled, with the crowd panicking as spectators rushed for the exits.
The Central News Paris desk wires the acceptance of Colonel Marchand’s resignation after his complaints about not being sent with French officers to the Russian army. The hanging of Bill Rudolph known as the Missouri Kid was postponed indefinitely in Union Missouri on May 13 and no new date was set. Rudolph faces capital punishment after his conviction in a high profile case. Local officials reported the delay pending further court actions and possible appeals.

Washington reports deny that Pension Commissioner Ware has resigned as claimed in morning papers. Officials state Ware remains in office and continues duties at the Pension Commission in Washington D C.
Since Unicorn county moved its seat from La Grande to Union in 1872 the towns have spent about 40 000 in 30 years. Officials estimate 60 000 total on defense and relocation efforts as the dispute continues.
