Thirteen prisoners fled the city prison this morning after chisels opened two doors. They scattered through the building and escaped along corridors, with one man reappearing near the chief's office. Alarm raised as the escape sparked a hunt. reports note possible internal complicity and suspicious circumstances.
Paris May 11 officials here say Russia gave positive assurances to the United States that there will be no interruption of the open door policy in Manchuria and that General Kuropatkin’s mission to Manchuria was pacific. Re occupation of Niu Chwang is viewed as a political issue among Russia Great Britain and Japan, not affecting American commerce or interests.
