Homer Davenport world famous cartoonist dies in New York apartments after brief illness. Born March 4, 1867 in Silverton Oregon he rose from a farm with only a common school education to prominence on the San Francisco Examiner staff in 1892. He had worked as a jockey clown and railroad fireman and created iconic political cartoons including marks of dollar suits and trust giants. He toured Arabia obtaining twenty seven Arabian horses and drew the sultan in the desert.

W H Babb longtime Pendleton resident and pioneer stockman died suddenly of heart failure in Medicine Hat Alberta while driving his car. The telegram to Mayor W F Matlock reported his death occurred while at the steering wheel. the machine ran fifty yards afterward. Babb and his wife had visited Pendleton Echo recently and still owned the old Babb farm in Echo. He was known across the county as a horseman and had run a hotel in Medicine Hat in recent years.
