Strange pardon in Wallace murder case of Charles Rollins
Charles Rollin of Wallace Idaho, initially given a 40 year sentence for murder in the second degree, was pardoned after the pardon board and supporters argued a sequence of unlikely and circumstantial events. He refused to reveal his true name to protect his mother, later revealed as Charles Rondo, and jurors who convicted him urged clemency. Governor Brady cited the case as extraordinary and ordered his release. The August 1905 Vincent killing involved a robbery and a bruised eye that aided identification, with Rollins maintaining innocence throughout.
