Many Lives Lost in Sinking Near Trinidad

Reports from Rio de Janeiro on March 31 describe 265 survivors from eleven steamers sunk by a raider named the Sea Adder, commanded by Count Lackyerne. Survivors say many of the destroyed vessels’ crew and passengers perished as the Sea Adder fired in perfect range near the Canaries and across from Portugal, with the raider alleged to have attacked ships amid the Atlantic patrols.

Mrs W S Patrick Called By Death

Mrs W S Patrick aged Pernille ton woman died yesterday at her daughter Mrs William Moothby’s home after long illness. Funeral will be held tomorrow at 2 pm at the brown pel. She was 84 years old, born February 6, 1869, and married to W W Patrick April 4 1886. Survived by one daughter Mrs Belene ewthhy and another Mrs Carrie Frures. Funeral services will be conducted in California and Kansas.

May wheat prices hit top of 1.97 at market open

Wheat prices moved in mixed fashion with May futures topping at 1.97 while day ranges showed open and high figures around 1.96 to 1.97. In Portland Oregon reports for March price context included 1.88 and 4.74 figures for related markets.

Pendleton employers pledge to rehire returning service workers

At patriotic meetings in Pendleton, nearly all employers signed to re-employ workers who leave for army navy or national guard service.
