The Union County Democratic convention in Astoria Oregon selected A. C. Craig as permanent chair and O. By Vanhousen as secretary with J. Kohn as assistant after 15 ballots for joint senator of Union and Wallowa counties. Nominations were made for multiple county offices and delegates to the State Convention. The convention adjourned with the ticket deemed a good one.
Adolf Cortes, a merchant dining saloon worker, walked with Hughes and then tried to cut Hughes throat with a weapon on a brush log outside the city. Hughes escaped to a hospital in doubtful condition. Cortes is in custody. sixty dollars was found on the victim.
