Belfast dispatches report nationalists clashed with three uniformed Ulster volunteers as police intervened. In Parliament Premier Asquith announced Seely’s resignation but will assume the war portfolio, seek re election, and forego dissolution of parliament. The move is hailed as highly adroit amidst Coalition tensions.

The fourth battalion of Tyrone regiment of the Ulster Volunteer Force trained outdoors at Renfurly Demesne in Dungannon. About 2000 men participated in a field day learning to shoot for war as squads fired on imagined enemies advancing from the woods amid ongoing open drill in Ulster towns.
A man identified by a wounded survivor as Charles Hopkins, known as the tattooed robber, killed Tony Gerb and fatally shot John Freeman two miles north of McMurray after stopping the pair on the tracks. Todhunter admitted selling it and claimed he bought it from Joe Williams, who was arrested and denies knowledge of the matter.
Testimony resumed in New York as the government case against the American Sugar Refining Company nears completion. The prosecution wrapped up its evidence days before adjournment and the sugar firm is now presenting its defense. Earlier hearings took place in the west and south.

Tokio March 30 The mikado and the elder statesmen met to choose a successor to Premier Yamamoto who resigned over a naval graft scandal. Prince Tokugawa declined the post, making it likely Count Kigours would be asked to form a new cabinet.
Washington March 30 testimony from railroad men before the Interstate Commerce Commission covered freight storage at terminals loading and unloading practices. Salem reporter notes L H McMahan of Salem will seek the progressive nomination for governor. In Milton, the Lamb Fruit company has purchased land and is constructing a large warehouse.

In Clatskanie Oregon on March 30 Mrs Clara Foreman was arrested after attempting to break into a Quincy schoolhouse following her discharge by the new school board for alleged socialist teaching. She refused to acknowledge the board and allegedly tried to force the door. Socialists across the county gathered and threatened drastic action unless she is released.
Centralia Wash March 30 Suspected of being one of the bandits who held up the Elma bank William Watson was arrested in railroad yards early today He drew a revolver on officers but Policeman Emrich grappled him and the gun discharged in the air Watson was searched and another revolver and three knives were found in his pocket His description is said to tally with that of one of the bandits.
In Washington on March 16 President Wilson denounced Knowland as issuing a crowning insult for charging a bargain with England to eliminate the canal tolls exemption. He said the allegation was false and warned the tolls debate had degenerated, while asserting the repeal would pass and the party would not be disrupted. London reports later deny any Anglo American understanding behind Wilsons request.
