Survivors suffer exposure as bodies float past debris and livestock. Gov Cox learns of rescue efforts and militia relief trains heading to Dayton.
Cold and heavy snow cripple Ohio and Indiana with a blinding storm after rain. Temperatures plummet and hundreds of thousands endure suffering as deaths reach about a hundred. Rumors claim Piqua destroyed and Troy on fire while the Scioto River falls.
In Columbus on March 27 Governor Cox announced a ten days legal holiday for flooded districts. It is to give victims time to manage notes and mortgages due. The governor urged funds be wired to aid the affected area rather than sending supplies.
Cincinnati reports twenty fatalities in Piqua and a million dollars damage, with rescue boats reaching the Westside district. Firemen say the toll may rise as hundreds are feared dead in the flood disaster in Columbus and surrounding areas.

Dayton Ohio March 7 A rescuer Charles H Vanhorn who ventured deepest into North Dayton described a ruinous flood scene. He estimated at least twenty five hundred dead after boat collisions with floating bodies and walls of flames. He recounted cries from windows and fires consuming blocks near third and St Clair streets.
The Lewistown reservoir above Dayton containing millions of gallons of water is threatened. Efforts are being made to communicate with Sidney and other points.
Frank telegraph messages from St Mary's Ohio and other towns in Ohio and Indiana claimed the Grand reservoir had burst. At noon reports proved premature as east walls showed signs of collapse and guards released water to ease pressure, causing widespread panic in St Mary's and nearby towns.
Salem March 27 Governor West issued a proclamation calling for funds to aid flood sufferers. He directed contributions be sent to Edmund Giltner secretary of the Portland Chamber of Commerce.
The Johnston paying case in Pendleton began in circuit court before Judge G. W. Phelps. James Johnson owner on Jackson Street sues the City of Pendleton with Warren Construction Co. involved. Proceedings included testimony on residency and property, with challenges to the gravel bitulithic paving ordinance and bids.
Salem Oregon March 27 Governor West reappointed A H Carson of Josephine county as a member of the state board of horticulture for the third district.
A dispatch from McConnellsville reports Mala, a village of about 4000 residents, destroyed by floods with fatalities unknown. In Olympia, Governor Lister urged funds for flood victims and suggested contributions go to J. E. Chilberg, state treasurer of the Red Cross.
In Peru Indiana on March 27 flood deaths were not yet confirmed. Reported scenes show bodies seen floating through streets hourly as rescue and assessment efforts continue.
In Dayton Ohio on March 27 twenty five policemen and a dozen firemen are missing amid a disaster. Fireman Charles Phillips leaped from a floor believing his family had perished, underscoring the peril faced by responders.
Secretary of War Wilson writes to Governor Cox of Ohio and Ralston of Indiana that he has directed immediate action to send a necessary staff to flood districts. The aim is to render assistance more promptly than if current communication barriers persist.
Columbus dispatch reports General Wood of the national guard telephoned Dayton at 2 15 pm to request several hundred coffins immediately as rescue operations are about to start.
In Los Angeles on March 27 eight thousand dollars was raised for flood sufferers in Ohio and Indiana. At noon additional contributions were still coming in as the relief effort continued to gather support.
