Great Northern Steamers Nearing Completion

A St Paul official reports from the Great Northern railroad on steamers nearing completion at New London Connecticut for trans Pacific service. Each vessel measures 680 feet long with a 73.5 foot beam and features five acres of deck room usable for freight. One ship can carry about nine hundred thousand bushels of wheat. A 60,000 pound 20 foot freight car would need about seven miles of grain to fill, illustrating the vast cargo capacity of the new fleet.
