Conductor A St Colwin died at Good Samaritan Hospital after injuries from Thoraday’s railroad accident. He leaves a young wife. A new trial motion in Pearl Page case is heard today. The mother seeks to keep her daughter out of prison and has appealed to the Governor. Four city fire alarms report blazes with minor to moderate losses.
In San Francisco on March 25 James Collins was shot by John McNulty after a street argument. Collins died within about two hours from a bullet to the left eye. McNulty claims self defense. Police struggled to hold back a crowd that gathered at the jail after his arrival.
The lowlands along the Elbe and Vistula rivers are inundated. Dorieta village is isolated in a rising lake as soldiers reach it with supplies. Fifteen soldiers drown while attempting further relief missions. about two hundred square miles are submerged amid rumors of widespread damage.
March 23 political chatter centers on Waite successor. Jurists Jenkines Dickinson Carlisle are mentioned as top contenders with a preference for a Northern or Western appointee.
A heavy snow and wind storm raged across Northern Wisconsin Minnesota and Dakota causing three to five inches of snow. Street cars were abandoned and pedestrians struggled amid the blast. Nearly all trains ran one to seven hours late.
