Stolen But Not Found in Ongoing Kidnap Case

Pat Crowe, now employed by a newspaper, has left for Cleveland to aid the search for Tillie Whit, who was kidnapped from Sharon, Pennsylvania. Detectives report a third ransom letter may have been sent by the Whit kidnappers, mailed near Sharon as state troopers conduct house to house checks into Ohio.

Ward seizes Whitla kidnap case letter in Cleveland

Detective Ward of Philadelphia reports to Whitla kidnappers that the only mistake was the victim he mentions and that Whitla waited five hours while the ransom lay near a cannon. The plan to move money at Flatiron Park, Ashtabula, and deliver the son at Smith hotel was thwarted when Ashtabula police learned of the plot.

Drake Offers Self as Hostage in Kidnapping Case

John H. Drake, former president of a surgical instrument maker, proposed to become hostage to the Billy Whith kidnapers. He would carry $10,000 in gold and go unarmed to a designated spot, contingent on the kidnapers returning the boy and on bank deposits to Drake upon the boy's safe return.
