One passenger coach baggage car and box car derailed about 150 feet of track damaged. A detective believed to be the cause may have triggered the wreck. A relief train carried the passengers back to the city around 1 am.
Walla Walla March 22 Special Fred Miller sentenced in Cowlity county for murdering and robbing a stranger at Castle Rock Install was hanged in the prison yard at sunrise. Only prison officials newspaper men and a priest witnessed the execution.

C M Levy vice president of the W and C R and third VP of the Northern Pacific said it will be several months at least before Walla Walla can have another daily passenger train over the Wi & between the city and Pasco. Levy, in town briefly on a special train, was pressed by a Commercial club committee led by President Kaser to consider better service. The business interests vowed to present a strong case to secure the additional train.
A fire at the American Refining works in Point Breeze Philadelphia destroyed about one million dollars worth of property. Explosions occurred in rapid succession, hurling burning debris onto firemen and workers and injuring several people.
Walla Walla names 69 men to witness gambling cases to be heard in the superior court during the April term filed with County Clerk Dorney Hill. Names must be endorsed on informations. The list contains 59 names and several witnesses are to testify in multiple cases.
District Attorney Pinel indicted Ed Metcalf an insurance agent and gambler for assault with intent to kill after a barroom shooting at the Hotel Echo. Metcalf fled Wednesday night and is being sought by the sheriff while other Echo gamblers faced possible indictments as officials probe gambling at the hotel. The case centers on a room used as an insurance office adjoining the bar where a late night game sparked the trouble.

A noon blaze at Ironton Ohio leveled the Ironton Lumber Company plant and several residences amid a high wind. The fire caused about 100000 dollars in damage within two hours as engines from nearby cities rushed to the scene.
